Special Educational Needs

Our SENCO at Penistone Grammar School is Mrs Lynn Smith email address sen@penistone-gs.uk

Penistone Grammar School  is a fully inclusive school and we believe that all students should be valued and treated with respect.  The school works within the framework provided by the SEN Code of Practice (2014) and the Disability Equality Act.

Our expectation for all our students is that they will make good to outstanding progress.  We are committed to narrowing the attainment gap between students with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) and those without, both in terms of within-school variation and variation from national expectations.

In terms of supporting students with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), a new plan has been introduced nationally called ‘The Birth to 25 Plan’. The plan aims to streamline and coordinate pre-school, primary, secondary and post-16 education under one umbrella to ensure that SEND support can be identified, monitored and met under a single category.  The Birth to 25 Plan replaces the ‘Statement of Special Educational Need’ and for the first time provides specific reference to support at post-16.
