Health and Social Care
BTEC Health and Social Care
This is a new vocational course suitable for all students considering a career in the country’s largest employer—the Health and Social Care sector. It will include links with external agencies and will involve a vocational style of delivery. The course is equivalent to 1 GCSE but is graded using a pass, merit or distinction grading system. Students may
achieve a Level 1 or Level 2 qualification.
What Will I Study?
Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development
This unit provides you with the opportunity to explore how we grow and develop throughout our lives and investigates the factors that affect growth and development.
Unit 2: Health and Social Care Services and Values
In this unit, you will gain an understanding of how care values are applied in Health and Social care settings, and their importance to the work in this sector.
Unit 3: Health and Wellbeing
In this unit you will study the factors that affect health and wellbeing, learning about physiological and lifestyle indicators, and how to design an health and wellbeing improvement plan.
How will my work be assessed?
Units 1 and 2 are assessed internally under controlled conditions. Unit 3 is assessed externally.
What future opportunities can this lead to?
Students who study this course will develop the skills and attributes essential for successful performance in aspects of their working life, not just the Health and Social Care sector. The course allows students to progress to Level 2 or 3 Health and Social Care, other technical awards or A Level study.
