As the Principal, I feel privileged to lead our school at a time when our students are excelling in all key stages. This year 82% of our students have achieved 5 or more grade 4’s including English and Mathematics with the proportion of our students making good and outstanding progress significantly higher than the national figure. The number of students who have gained the top 7-9 grades has increased again in 2017/18 and the performance of students within Science is amongst the best in the country. Our progress 8 figure for 2017/18 was +0.39 for all students and +0.9 for students with Special Educational Needs. At Post 16 outstanding results place us in the top 1% of schools nationally. We achieved an ALPs grade 1, the first time in the school history. 46% of all A level grades were grades A or A*. 95% of students secured their University of choice, with 53% achieving places at Russell Group Universities (over four times the National Average and the highest proportion the school has ever seen).
We have a committed and talented staff who always focus on developing the very best practice so that our first class learning facilities and ICT resources are optimised. Students and members of the wider community benefit from state of the art sports facilities; a professional drama studio; a fully equipped catering suite and a hairdressing salon to name but a few of the specialist areas within the school. Of course, education is much more than examination results and our core values which were created by our students exemplify what Penistone Grammar School is all about.
Inspiring Aspiration and Excellence
We are proud of our rich tradition of excellence, striving to achieve the highest standards and to be at the heart of our community. Innovative and supportive, we bravely lead the way in delivering an educational experience that enables our students to be well rounded, confident individuals. Our core values were developed by our students and lie at the heart of all that we do.
The most important part of any school is the quality of relationships. Above all, Penistone is a happy school with a supportive and welcoming environment for all students. As a result young people grow in confidence and are able to participate in the wide range of opportunities available at Penistone. We encourage our students to follow their interests, develop new skills and most importantly, fully enjoy all aspects of school life
