Mrs Richardson (Specialist Teacher – Y7)

I am from South Wales but have lived in Yorkshire for over 11 years. I absolutely love my job as a teacher and devote lots of time to reading and learning new skills that will help me support the students I work with. I am very lucky to have two beautiful, fun loving children who keep me very busy along with two cats, a dog and 100 sheep. I am fortunate to live on a farm so when I get some rare free time I enjoy travelling, reading and playing sport. I have played in the South Yorkshire netball league for over 5 years.

Mrs Proctor (Specialist Teacher – Moderate & Complex Needs)

I am an experienced teacher of students with 15 years SEND across KS2, KS3 and KS4. I have worked as a KS2 and KS3 whole curriculum teacher within specialist provisions during this time delivering core subjects as well as French, Humanities and the arts. I am a passionate specialist teacher of music and drama, having completed my undergraduate studies in Music at the University of Huddersfield before completing my teacher training at Heritage Park Community School in 2007. Following my passion for the arts, I have successfully adapted a variety of Shakespeare works to a South Yorkshire setting which were performed as part of the Sheffield Children’s’ Festival at various theatre venues across the city, including the Crucible and Library Theatres with groups of disadvantaged and SEND young people from across the city. I am an advocate for creativity and strive to implement this into an engaging and enriching curriculum for my pupils.

I am an active member of the local community and sing soprano with Fox Valley Voices choir as well as being part of the running committee for the Valley Music Festival in Stocksbridge and Deepcar. I am an ardent supporter of the local Christmas carols and can be found sharing them with my local community throughout December having learnt them as a child in Stannington.

Out of school, I like to spend time with my two daughters baking, reading or being crafty. I am a big fan of stories, especially Harry Potter and books by David Walliams. I am also very fond of my cats, George and Hazel and can usually be found on my terrace on a Friday spending time with them and my girls, dreaming about future trips to France.

Mrs Sharman (Specialist Teacher – Y8)

Hello, I’m Mrs Sharman the Year 8 teacher at Penistone Grammar School working in the HeartSpace. I have supported many different primary schools in Barnsley over the last 7 years and my roles have ranged from Learning Support, Trainee Teacher to Qualified Teacher, after studying for my teaching degree at Sheffield Hallam University. I have worked at Penistone Grammar since 2019 in the mainstream part of school with SEND students, but now teaching full time in the Heartspace.

My ethos is to offer students a safe and stimulating learning environment, where an engaging and tailored curriculum is offered each and every day. My interest around THRIVE and basic training in this has provided me with the tools to create a relaxing environment, allowing students to have the opportunity to communicate effectively.

I am always wanting to better myself and continue to deepen my skills through different training courses, particularly in Special Educational Needs and Reading for Pleasure.

Miss Cooper (Leader of Learning Support)

I have 14 years experience of working with students with complex special needs. I began working as a Learning Support Assistant, progressed to HLTA and Teacher of History as well as SEN Learning Manager. I absolutely love the challenge, difference and opportunity each day working in an environment like the HeartSpace brings.

I have a real passion and belief that children with SEND needs are given equal opportunities and every chance to succeed in things which they are passionate about.

I love spending time with my son, doing crafts, history and going to the cinema (tango iceblast included!). I also like going on country walks, watching TikTok videos (mainly the crazy dancing ones) and I am currently trying to re-teach myself Makaton sign language. One of the things I look forward to the most is going on holiday, whether it be to my favourite UK getaway of Filey or cruising round the Mediterranean, sunshine makes everything feel better.

Miss Beevers (LSA – Therapeutic Intervention)

My name is Miss Beevers and I have worked in education for 10 years. I started volunteering at my son’s primary school initially, and loved the job so much, I decided to make a career change and started working as a Teaching Assistant at Stocksbridge High School. I have spent the last 3 years in a SEMH Special School in Barnsley, working with young people with complex needs. My practice incorporates a therapeutic approach to teaching and I thoroughly enjoy seeing the rewards as a result of using different methods of engaging young people. As well as working with SEND students, I have experience with students who struggle in a mainstream school environment and are taught in Pupil Referral Units. Most of my time in schools has been in KS3 and KS4, so I will be very much at home at PGS.

I was Safeguarding and Science Link Governor at Stocksbridge High School for 4 years, which gave me an insight in the complete workings of a school. I assisted in the recruitment of many staff, including the Head Teacher, and was part of the Parent Engagement Team. I was also part of the Student Progress and Welfare Committee.

In my spare time I am a Music Promoter and have organised concerts and festivals across the country. A few years ago, I held a fundraiser night featuring different musicians to raise money for my local primary schools. We raised over £250 which was spent on music equipment for the children. I have also worked as a Volunteer Youth Worker at the YMCA in Barnsley, helping to engage young people in various activities.

I love to travel and particularly enjoy cruising. Last year I spent 3 weeks cruising around Scandinavia and Russia which was amazing! My partner also has an interesting job…he is a professional Magician.

In addition to assisting students with their educational needs, my aim is to promote them to be the very best versions of themselves they can be!
