What valuable knowledge can I expect my child to gain?
Department Vision Statement
KS3:
The study of geography is about more than just memorizing places on a map. It’s about understanding the complexity of our world, appreciating the diversity of cultures that exists across continents. And in the end, it’s about using all that knowledge to help bridge divides and bring people together.
Our vision for our KS3 Geographers is that it inspires students to become global citizens by developing their knowledge and skills of their own place in the world, their values and responsibilities to other people, to the environment and to the sustainability of the planet. We aim to stimulate an interest in and a sense of wonder about the world around them. In addition, we aim to equip our students to become independent learners with the ability to question, investigate and to think critically about issues affecting a dynamically changing world both now and in the future.
Exam Groups:
As a department we are proud of the positive relationships we build between staff and students. We believe that Geography should provide a comprehensive basis from which students can follow any career path they wish to pursue. Our vision is that we provide a challenging and engaging curriculum where we ensure a culture of high achievement for all. Central to this is high quality learning which is supported by the thoughtful and deliberate implementation of a knowledge rich curriculum. We want to ensure that our Geographers like Geography graduates nationally are amongst the most employable due to their understanding of the interdependence between the physical and human world and their ability to understand the socio-economic and political connections between them all.
